Video: Libraries in 1922

Its so easy to forget the hundreds of hours I spent in libraries studying for school and university.

Today I have no reason to leave my desk. Here is what access to information was like in 1922:

Featured libraries include the British Museum, the Central Library for Students on Galen Place, Islington Central Library and Croydon Library. Though as “books know no frontiers nor garrisoned forts” we also catch a glimpse of travelling rural libraries and a seafarer’s library.

The film is a joyous celebration of libraries and their services; “libraries are living things and each has a life of its own.” How are you celebrating National Libraries day? Tell us in the comments.
